Istanbul, August 2025 – The historic presidential yacht Savarona, a cherished legacy of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, has been fully restored and recommissioned into the Turkish Naval Forces, marking a significant revitalization under the guidance of First Lady Emine Erdoğan and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Built in Germany in 1931, the luxurious Savarona served as Atatürk’s residence in his final days. Following decades of neglect and maritime tragedies, the yacht underwent an extensive restoration at the Istanbul Naval Shipyard under Naval Commander Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu’s three-phase plan and the presidential directives.
As part of TEKNOFEST’s “Blue Homeland” (Mavi Vatan) maritime parade, Savarona joined the powerful TCG Anadolu and seven naval vessels on 24 August 2025, crossing the Bosphorus between 15:30 and 18:30. The flotilla followed the route from the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, passing through Sarıyer, Rumeli Hisarı, Bebek, Ortaköy, and concluded near Dolmabahçe, where President Erdoğan greeted the vessels.
Onboard Savarona, 13 university students toured the yacht, learning about its storied history, restoration, and symbolism. Atatürk’s personal belongings—from his bathrobe and barber’s chair to a stained bedsheet—are being respectfully preserved aboard.
This celebrated voyage not only honored Atatürk’s memory but also symbolized the marriage of maritime heritage and modern naval prowess, anchoring Savarona firmly in Turkey’s naval future.
